Fevers and Aromatherapy

When your child develops a fever, it is very uncomfortable for both the child and you. In the case of a very high fever, your child can even go into seizures. If the child begins to shiver, it doesn’t mean he or she is cold so do not try to warm them up. That will only make the fever worse. Shivering is just one way the body tries to get rid of a fever.

To treat the fever, cover the patient with a sheet and continuously wipe the head and body with a cool, not cold, cloth. Cold water will only keep the heat in because the blood vessels will contract in response to the cold temperature. Also sponge the body occasionally with lukewarm water to which you have added 2 drops of essential oil per 1 quart of water. The essential oils to choose from for cooling are eucalyptus, tea tree, camomile, peppermint (in a room diffuser only), or lavender.
