Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is another oil for your basic care kit. It comes from the Australian Melaleuca tree and the Aborigines have used it in their medications for hundreds of years. Although its antiseptic action is stronger than carbolic acid, it is non-poisonous to humans. Naturalists and others concerned with alternative health and alternative first aid use tea tree oil in the treatment of all kinds of infections; for ringworm, sunburn, acne, athlete’s foot, toothache, and many other things that require antiviral, antibacterial, or antifungal medication.

Tea tree can be blended into your mouthwash and hair shampoo. I won’t tell you to do this but when I gargle with my mouthwash in the morning, I add 1 drop of tea tree oil¬† and I believe it is very effective in warding off colds and sore throats as well as bad breath. Tea tree doesn’t smell wonderful but if you blend it with other essential oils, it can be disguised and used in room diffusion methods when someone¬† in the home is contagious.
