no constipationEating natural foods like greens, broccoli, figs and prunes and also drinking lots of water can help with constipation. Choose organic products so you leave out the toxins from chemicals used to grow so many of today’s foods. Be very careful about choosing your foods during pregnancy because all the “natural” foods might look natural but contain some very unnatural products. Because of the unnaturalness of today’s food and pressure on the pregnant woman’s digestive system, constipation is a common ailment during pregnancy but do not use chemical laxatives.

Besides eating natural foods, another excellent way to clear the bowels is to take a glass of water and add 1/4 teaspoon of green clay, which you can find at your local health food store. As the clay passes through your system it absorbs toxins in your body and passes them on out. While you’re at the health food store, you can also look for psysillium husks. These are pure fiber and can be taken in capsule form or raw. They will also clean out all the gunk hiding in your bowels.

Patchouli essential oil is handy to have around whether you are pregnant or not.  Just add 30 drops of patchouli to 2 tablespoons of liquid shea oil or sweet almond oil in a dark colored bottle. Rub the oil all over the abdomen in a clockwise direction starting at the lower right hand side by the groin and rub right up to underneath the breasts, across to the other side and down to the groin hairline again.

Have an Aromatherapy Bath

aromatherapybath2If you had a stressful day and need to take some time out, take a bath; even better than that, take an aromatherapy bath – one enhanced with your favorite essential oils. The fragrant effects of the essential oils along with the warm water of the bath are a form of holistic treatment. I am usually in a big hurry and take my shower with essential oil enriched shower gel but it is not the same as an aromatherapy bath.

To get your aromatherapy bath ready, light candles around the bathroom and play soft music so the ambiance is right for relaxation. Run the water at a comfortably warm temperature and when it is run, swirl in one of the following water softening agents,  depending on the kind of treatment you want.

  • To detoxify your body’s systems use 4 ounces of epsom salts
  • To soften the water and soothe your skin use 4 ounces of full cream milk
  • To nourish dry skin, use 2 teaspoons of unscented dispersing bath oil

Now you are ready to choose your essential oils, use a total of 6 drops, swish the water and get in. Soak for at least 20 minutes, adding hot water if necessary. Relax and enjoy your bath. Below are some suggestions for essential oils to use in your aromatherapy bath. If you are pregnant and past your first trimester or have sensitive skin, you should halve the drops in each of the combinations.

  • To relax: 2 drops ylang ylang and 4 drops sweet orange
  • To improve sleep: 4 drops lavender and 2 drops sandalwood
  • To detoxify the body’s systems: 2 drops myrtle and 4 drops grapefruit
  • To soothe the skin: 2 drops chamomile and 4 drops geranium

pregnant-womenPregnancy can bring an overabundance of minor problems such as backache, swollen feet and legs, heartburn, indigestion and insomnia. Some women just feel aggravated in general because they are unable to easily do their normal routine with a swollen belly in the way. If you feel this way during pregnancy, you need some TLC. Here is an extraordinary preparation that you can have your spouse or friend massage into your back regularly during pregnancy that will ease your physical problems and at the same time, lift your spirits. Use any rose you can afford (it can be very expensive) or you can substitute the rose with geranium.

Pregnancy Pick-Me-Up Massage Oil

Use some or all of these oils in equal proportions to a total of 30 drops per 2 tablespoons of a carrier oil such as liquid shea oil or sweet almond oil. During pregnancy many women feel tired after working all day. Essential oils can make your swollen legs and aching back feel much better. Pregnant women should only use 2 – 4 drops of essential oil in a bath. Choose your favorite oil from the list above or combine 1 drop each of geranium and lavender.

Enjoying A Healthy Glow With My Facial Moisturizer

I used to struggle with really dry skin and it would get annoying and even embarrassing to have to deal with it all the time. The cold and long winters in the area where I used to live didn’t help at all. My skin would get super dry in the wintertime and it would stay pretty dry in the summer and in the fall as well. It would get hard for me to keep my skin looking great.

Finding some great moisturizer for my skin has really helped me not to have that cracked and peeling embarrassing dry skin. I found one that helps my skin to stay soft and healthy and it has helped me to stay young-looking as well. I love using this lotion and it has given me some amazing results over the years.

With my facial moisturizer, I can enjoy having the kind of healthy glow that I want to have. I like to use the lotion on a regular basis so that I can feel confident and so that I can avoid any painful cracking or itchy dry skin. I love the way that my new moisturizer works and that I no longer feel like I have to hide my skin. The lotion has been a great find with mango butter, vitamin E, and other important nutrients.

Aromatherapy and Pregnancy

pregnancyFrom the moment of conception, everything you eat or apply to your skin filters to your baby. The baby will hear everything you hear and feel everything you feel so pay attention to the kind of music you listen to, the movies you watch and try to keep the tension in your life at a minimum. This is a time in your life when you should eat and drink only the best of everything, cut out bad habits and definitely give up smoking.

Many essential oils are safe to use while you are pregnant but there are also some that you should avoid. The ones that are safe for you to use are tangerine, mandarin, grapefruit, geranium, chamomile, rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang and lavender. You can use these oils in a bath, shower, as a massage or in one of the room methods. During pregnancy, always use the minimum amount of essential oils.

Youthful Neck Care

July 20, 2017

No matter how much make up and concealer is on your face, you must take care of the delicate skin on your neck or it will be like a lovely rose on a stalk that can’t support it. The neck is one of the first places on the body to show its age.  Crinkled skin, loss of elasticity, wrinkles and double chins all lead one to look older even though great care is put into maintaining the good looks of the face. You can try to keep your neck covered with a scarf but that is not practical and the neck responds extremely well to essential oil treatments.

The essential oils for neck care are rose, geranium, clary-sage, lemon, lemongrass, black pepper, or carrot. Use any one of these oils added to a carrier oil like jojoba, evening primrose, or avocado to begin your treatments.  The neck is very delicate and must be cleansed with the same care you use on your face. Add one drop of one of the above essential oils to each 3/4 teaspoon of your usual cleansing cream. Then each night before bed apply the following blend: 8 drops of pettigraine, 3 drops of orange oil, 10 drops carrot oil, 14 drops palma rosa, and 5 drops of lemon blended well with 3 teaspoons jojoba oil, 2 teaspoons wheatgerm oil, and 2 teaspoons of avocado oil. Leave this on for a few minutes and then wipe off any excess with a tissue before going to bed.

Body Oils

If you are concerned about using natural skin care products, you should use body oils instead of  perfume or cologne. Traditional designer brand perfumes are comprised of concentrated oils and 75% to 85% alcohol, ethanol and or water. When you purchase perfume or cologne, you  are paying a high price for the brand name, the advertising campaigns, the “cosmetics gifts” you receive for purchasing a certain dollar amount, the alcohol used, and the beautiful fancy packaging.

The alcohol and ethanol used make your perfume smell much stronger than it is but it fades within a few hours. As your perfume (or the alcohol in it) evaporates, it not only takes your fragrance but your natural body oils with it, drying your skin as it goes.  Body oils are pure, concentrated perfume oils in a cosmetic grade vegetable oil. They evaporate naturally giving your skin a softer, smoother feeling – plus they contain no alcohol, ethanol or water so many people who are allergic to perfumes and colognes can wear body oils with no problems.

Bergamot Magic Belly Rub

Author: Dr. Larita
July 17, 2017

Bergamot Mint loves late dinners and midnight snacks.

It has a few favorite “open all night” cafes and 24-hour restaurants, but it also likes hanging out with friends at home and indulging in treats.

Bergamot Mint never worries about digestion, even on nights when it tumbles into bed right after a big snack. It makes this Magic Belly Balm to help it digest its food easily. Here’s a recipe that makes enough Belly Balm for Bergamot Mint and all its friends!

Bergamot Mint’s Magic Belly Balm

  • 1 oz (28 g) beeswax (Cera alba)
  • 2 oz (60 ml) jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)
  • 3 oz (84 g) coconut oil (Cocos nucifera)
  • 1 oz (28 g) shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii)
  • 42 drops Bergamot Mint essential oil (Mentha citrata)
  • 14 drops Cardamom essential oil (Elettaria cardamomum)
  • 21 drops Peppermint essential oil (Mentha × piperita)

Directions

  1. Create a “stovetop double boiler” by placing a Pyrex measuring cup into a soup pot that’s ¼ full of water. Bring the water to a gentle boil.
  2. Put the beeswax in the Pyrex and melt.
  3. Add the jojoba and coconut oil and remelt.
  4. Add the shea butter and melt, stirring gently with a glass stirring rod or the handle of a stainless steel spoon. As soon as the shea butter is melted, remove the blend from heat.
  5. Add the essential oils, stirring gently.
  6. Pour your blend into two 4 oz (120 ml) glass jars. Give it about 20 minutes to solidify.

Massage your Bergamot Mint Belly Balm into your belly and low back when you feel overly full or have an upset stomach.

This recipe makes 7 oz (210 ml) . . . and that’s a lot of Belly Balm! You can use seven 1 oz (30 ml) jars and give some away as gifts!

If you’d rather use a belly oil than a rich balm, here’s a recipe from The Aromahead Blog for Belly Spasm Oil. It’s just as effective, but has a different texture.
