How to Treat Injuries 2

Yesterday we discussed the most commonly known methods of treating injuries – heat, cold and RICE (rest, ice, compress and elevation.) I didn’t say much about RICE because it is so often talked about by physiotherapists and sports therapists that we all seem to know the term. Today, let’s talk a little about another treatment method – ointments.

You can make your own ointment which can be a carrier for your favorite essential oils. In many cases, the essential oils work better in an ointment when you use them during a physical activity than they do in a vegetable based carrier oil. You can make your ointment base in a double boiler by blending 4 tablespoons of anhydrous lanolin (get it at your local health food store) and 2 tablespoons of sweet almond oil to make a total of 3 ounces ointment. Blend the lanolin and almond oil together well  and then mix in your chosen essential oils.

We will talk more about the essential oils to use for different injuries later. This week, I am giving you several different methods to treat injuries using pure and natural essential oils as your medicine of choice. While we discuss our way through the different methods, you can be gathering containers in which to store your oils and ointments. By now, you should already have your essential oil kit  ready to make your blends.
