Thyme Essential Oil

aromatherapy2I like to periodically feature one of the more popular essential oils that everyone should have on hand in their home. Thyme is a very useful essential oil because of its powerful antiviral properties. It has been used for centuries by ancient civilizations. The Greeks and the Romans used it to flavor cheese and alcohol. The Egyptians used it in their embalming practice and the Scots used to make a tea and drank it thinking it gave them courage and strength. Today, thyme is used in aromatherapy for its many therapeutic uses.

  • Put 2-3 drops on a cotton ball and dab on the affected area for acne, bruises, cuts, eczema, insect bites, oily skin and warts.
  • Put 2-3 drops in a carrier oil and massage it on the affected area for arthritis, gout, muscle aches and pains, sports injuries, sprains and rheumatism.
  • Use 2-3 drops in steam inhalation or in 1 ounce of a carrier oil and rub it on the chest and throat for asthma, bronchitis and coughs.
  • Use 2-3 drops in steam inhalation for colds, flu, mucous infections and sinusitis.
  • Put 2-3 drops in a diffuser for insomnia, physical exhaustion and stress-related problems.
  • Use 2-3 drops in 1 ounce of carrier oil and massage it on the body to fight poor circulation
