Spring Allergies

On the first day of Spring this year, my husband went to work in the yard. It was only to pick up the dead limbs from all the snow we’ve had but it was enough to cause his allergies to flare up like they do every time he does yard work. Allergies can come from all manner of irritants such as foods, dust, and chemicals to name a few. When these substances invade the body, the defense mechanisms are triggered and you may get sneezes, hives or even respiratory arrest. Aromatherapists approach allergies with essential oils that are calming and soothing to relieve the overreaction to the irritant.

For my honey’s reaction to grass, I had him add one drop of oregano essential oil to a large cup of chamomile tea with honey and stir well and frequently. Later, I gave him a massage with a mixture of 2 drops lavender and 2 drops chamomile essential oil diluted in a tablespoon of liquid shea oil onto his forehead, temples, sinuses, neck, and chest. He stopped sneezing so much even before he used the massage oil. He went to bed and got a good night’s sleep and that always helps. The next day he was feeling much better.
