Neuralgia is a form of chronic pain that can be difficult to diagnose. Once your doctor has determined through specific tests that you do indeed have neuralgia and hopefully has identified the particular nerve involved, there are some aromatherapy essential oils that you can use to help alleviate the pain.

Numbing the area with ice can often help to relieve the pain so you can use a cold compress or ice treatment over the affected area. If there is inflammation, follow the ice treatment by massaging with the blend below diluted in 2 teaspoons of liquid shea oil.

  • 5 drops lavender
  • 5 drops chamomile
  • 2 drops clove

If the pain is located on your face, leave out the clove and substitute 2 drops of rosemary. Other essential oils you can use for neuralgia are peppermint, eucalyptus and thyme.
