head liceI worked with elementary school children for 28 years and I know know that you can treat head lice with tea tree oil. I love tea tree oil for all of its many and diverse uses. I just don’t like the way it smells. I use it if I’ll be home but not if I have to go out. I have an excellent oil treatment for head lice that does not use tea tree oil. Add 10 drops each of rosemary, lavender, geranium, and eucalyptus  to  2 ounces of sweet almond oil.

Rub the oil throughout the hair and leave it on for at least 1 hour then shampoo the oil out and rinse it well. Comb the hair with a nit comb after shampooing. Repeat this activity in about 3 days. Be very careful when you apply the oil and do not get it in the eyes. If essential oil gets in the eyes, wipe it out with plain sweet almond oil, not water. Water disperses the oil too quickly.
