Holiday Stress Relief 2

Author: Dr. Larita

Relaxation is just as important as exercise in treating stress and burnout. If you can’t relax, at least take deep slow breaths to slow down your pulse rate. Go outside or open a window, inhale and take in large volumes of air, slowly filling the lungs, and then exhaling slowly. Do this several times at least once a day. Self hypnosis or self-talk is a good way of reaching your subconscious mind and can be used at any time of the day.

You must lessen your workload wherever you can, and start and finish work at a specific time. Do not let anything get in the way of this resolve. Your body’s energy system is like the gas tank in your car; if you run out of energy, you start drawing on the “reserve” energy tank. People who have burnout are relying on their reserve energy and they need to coast or at least cruise nice and easy until they can fill up again. People who keep pushing themselves at full speed ahead might run out of energy again before they reach the gas station. You can help yourself cruise through stressful times with the following synergistic blend of relaxation oils.

  • 8 drops sandalwood
  • 5 drops palma rosa
  • 9 drops lemon

Mix the essential oils together in these proportions and use them in one of the room methods or in a relaxing bath. You can also make up a massage oil using 5 drops of the blend in 1 teaspoon of almond oil, or liquid shea oil.

All week  I have been talking about gifts you can make to give away at Christmas or for any occasion. That is, except for Monday – there was no blog Monday night because I had technical difficulties and couldn’t save anything so I finally gave up and went to bed. Tonight, I’ve got a gift that is going to be wonderful for anyone you give it to. This is the gift of body oils.

Body oils are fragrances that can be blends of essential oils or formulations of designer fragrances. You can wear them as an oil or they can be specially blended into a spray. The oils stay with you all day, even when you use just a very small amount. They blend in with your body chemistry and the same oil on you will have a different aroma on someone else. Some of the oils, like Egyptian Musk, are unisex and men and women wear the same oil but they smell wonderful on either one. The designer type fragrances are formulated for men and women just like the designer’s original fragrance. The best thing about the body oils is that there are no harmful chemicals or alcohol in them.

For many people, plain tap water is very drying to the skin and a bath oil is needed to counteract that effect. Not many oils are truly water dispersable but there is one that is a treated castor oil called red turkey oil. You can add your essential oil directly to the bottle of red turkey oil just like you would any other carrier oil.

If you want to use different essential oils you can add 5 drops of essential oil to 1 teaspoon of red turkey oil. If you are like me, you will want to scent the whole bottle of red turkey oil. If that is the case, use 50 drops of essential oil in a 2 ounce bottle of oil. I usually use lavender essential oil in my bath oil because it is so relaxing. I can soak in it and then fall right to sleep.

Women have been using oils to make their skin beautiful for hundreds of years. All the beauties of history used oils; first vegetable oils with flowers and herbs and then essential oils when they became available after the process of distillation was invented. Oils give the skin a sheen that catches the light and makes people stop and stare. You won’t need artificial body gleamers, they pale next to the oils.

There are many essential and carrier oils to choose from to make a good body oil. The essential oils are great for pampering your body and their properties will also do you a world of good both physically and mentally. Make your body oil using 5 drops of essential oil to 1 teaspoon of base vegetable oil. You can purchase a one ounce bottle of oil and scent it with 25 drops of your blend of essential oils or you can use just one oil. For a 2 ounce bottle of oil, use 50 drops of essential oil and so on.

My favorite body oil includes two base oils, sweet almond and evening primrose, plus chamomile, geranium and lavender essential oils. You can make your body oils with one carrier oil and one essential oil or a combination of five essential oils, it’s all up to you. The rest of this week’s blogs will be about different ways to incorporate body oils into products you can give as gifts no matter what the occasion. I hope today’s blog will get you interested in making an oil for yourself before you start making gifts to give away.

Stress, whether good or bad, is recognized as a part of everyone’s daily life. It is not easy to avoid, but there are ways to manage it so that you lessen or avoid some of the effects it can have on your mental and physical well-being. Aromatherapy essential oils are a natural treatment for easing stress and below is a recipe for relaxation after you’ve had one of those less than delightful days at home or work.

For a relaxing bath add two drops of bergamot and one drop of petitgrain to your bath and stir to distribute. You can relax with this brew every day. Having a massage is also an excellent way to relax after a trying day. For a soothing massage combine the following:

  • 10 drops lavender
  • 6 drops chamomile
  • 4 drops sandalwood
  • 4 drops ylang ylang
  • 2 ounces carrier oil

You can also add one to two teaspoons of the above blend to your bathwater or leave out the carrier oil and use it in a diffuser for inhalation therapy.

Stress, whether the good or the bad kind, is recognized as a part of everyone’s daily life. It is not always easy to avoid stress, but there are ways you can cope with it better. Fortunately, aromatherapy offers some of the best types of natural prescriptions for easing stress. There are many relaxing fragrances to choose from so go relieve your stress!

Stress is a part of everyone’s life in varying degrees on a scale from positive to distressful. Your soul, mind, and body will benefit greatly from the use of pure, safe, natural, and effective essential oils. Aromatherapy essential oils may be exactly what you need if you are trying to reduce the mental stress caused by taking exams, distress over uncompleted jobs, unemployment, or financial worries.

There are specific essential oils that can be used for mental stress and they can be used alone or in a synergistic blend. The oils to use are geranium, lavender, sandalwood, basil, bergamot, grapefruit, cardamom, and patchouli. A specific synergistic blend to use might be geranium, lavender and bergamot but you can blend others or simply use just one of the above mentioned oils.

My spouse is always busy on Sunday at  Fragrance World so when he awoke this morning and said he didn’t feel good, I thought he was going to stay home but he didn’t. He went to work but his stomach was upset all day. I tried to get him to eat something besides a smoothie for breakfast but he wouldn’t. He called me about an hour later and said he had just upchucked the smoothie and was feeling terrible so I went to the store to help with customers.

When we got back home in the evening he still didn’t feel well and he hadn’t eaten anything all day so I persuaded him to eat some soup. When he finished it, he felt nauseous again so he went to lay down. After 30 minutes, I told him I was going to brew him some tea that would make him feel better. He drank the tea and 15 minutes later, he felt back to his old self. I tried to get him to drink this brew this morning and if he had, he probably would have had a better day.

Aromatherapy tea for indigestion and upset stomach

Aromatherapy essential oils are used by many cultures throughout the world for their healing properties. These potent oils can be used to increase over-all well being and physical, emotional and mental health. Certain essential oils can also stimulate the sex drive and work as powerful aphrodisiacs. So if you want to spice up your love life, you should consider filling your oil diffuser with one of the following essential oils:

~Ylang ylang oil energizes the body and intensifies sexual desire.

~Rose oil aids in hormone balance. This oil works best for women, but is also said to boost sexuality in men.

~Jasmine oil is said to have a counter-effect on frigidity, impotence and premature ejaculation. It also boosts energy levels.

~Sandalwood oil is said to aid in the treatment of impotence and help to relieve the anxiety that leads to frigidity. Sandalwood also produces something similar to androsterone, a male hormone secreted in the armpits as a sexual signal.
