Crusty Feet

Author: Dr. Larita

I spend many hours in airports and I noticed that many men and women who wear sandals are not taking care of their feet and they have heels that are cracked and crusty. You can get rid of dry crusty feet by exfoliating with a salt or sugar scrub in the shower and then gently sloughing calluses with a pumice stone. Use the pumice stone a little at a time over a week or two and the callus will be gone or greatly reduced.

Next you should give your feet a deep moisturizing treatment with shea butter cream by coating your feet with the butter and then putting your socks on before going to bed. You can  deep moisturize as often as you like but don’t forget to moisturize your feet after each shower too. The finishing touch for feet that look good in sandals is to give yourself a pedicure and put on your favorite color nail polish if you want.

The price of essential oils varies from place to place and from time to time depending on their availability and their quality. For example, frankincense is harvested twice a year, in the spring and again in the fall. To make a long story short, the bark of the frankincense tree is cut allowing the liquid resin to seep out and as it hits the outside air it starts to crystallize and get hard. After one to two weeks, the hardened resin crystal can be cut off the tree and several different frankincense resins are produced ranging from the pure white “Hojari” which is what was selected for kings and queens to a low grade brownish frankincense resin that contains particles of the tree’s bark.

The crystal resin then goes through a process where it is crushed into powder, put into an oil bath, and steam distilled to extract the oil from the crystal resin. That’s why depending on the time of the year and the purity of your frankincense, you will pay more or less for the product.

Chamomile Essential Oil

Author: Dr. Larita

There are several types of chamomile essential oil but let’s discuss chamomile Roman which is especially good when used for the treatment of insomnia and nervous conditions. Chamomile is another essential oil that is antibacterial, antiseptic, and disinfectant but it is most useful for its internal and external anti-inflammatory properties.

Chamomile can be used when children have teething problems and can be added to the bath to ease nerves and tetchiness. It can also be used to treat burns, sunburn, psoriasis, eczema, asthma, hay fever, diarrhea, sprains and strains, nausea, fever, and nervous or depressed states. Chamomile’s analgesic, diuretic, sedative and calming properties make it absolutely essential to have in your basic care kit.

I like to have a clean and fresh home and there are just some rooms in my home that tend to not be the freshest and have some odors in them, like the bathroom. It can be hard for me to keep my bathroom perfectly fresh and that is why I really love the new air freshener that I got for it. The air freshener allows me to always have a fresh space.

With my air freshener for the bathroom, I no longer have to worry about having any nasty odors in there. The air freshener is also really great for the kitchen also, like when I have been making food and the odor of the food just won’t leave. I no longer have to leave windows open all the time or to do other things to try to freshen up the space.

A scented air freshener has proved to be the perfect solution for me and I am so glad that I found it. The air freshener makes it really easy for me to get the freshest clean for my home and to not worry about any odors anywhere. I can even use the air freshener in my closet to make sure that I am not smelling shoes or sweat from the laundry.

essential oilsWhen I took my Allergies Webinar through Aromahead Institute, I learned about 5 blends that can be used to reduce or even resolve allergies without the use of chemical medications. Aromahead Institute uses a holistic health model  that includes essential oil blends that nourish and protect vital energy and also resolve acute health issues.

Yesterday’s blog talked about blend number 5 for the essential oil inhaler so I started backwards. Today I want to start with blend 1 which is a linen spray. The linen spray will help you sleep better and reduce your night time congestion. Blend 1 is a nourishing vital energy blend that will not only help you sleep better but also reduce stress. You will add 2 drops ylang ylang, 7 drops orange essential oil and 3 drops lavender essential oils to a 1 ounce spray bottle of water. I use distilled water but you really don’t have to.

Once you have made the spray, keep the bottle on your night stand. At bed time, spritz your bed, over and under your pillow for a restful night of sleep. The ylang ylang is calming and soothes tight muscles. The orange essential oil reduces stagnation and helps you relax and unwind. The lavender essential oil is peaceful and the aroma is calming.

Today’s blog is a continuation from yesterday. Enjoy learning more about essential oils to enhance your health and beauty routine.

Peppermint oil

If you suffer from digestive issues or stomach problems, peppermint oil just might be your saving grace. Just one whiff of this oil can help calm an upset stomach, as well as curbing your appetite, and putting a bit in your tea will promote a healthy digestive system.

This oil also provides a cooling effect when massaged into the skin with a carrier oil, making it great for releasing tension in sore, aching muscles. And, thanks to peppermint oil’s antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, it can be an effective way to clean and heal cuts and scrapes.

  1. Chamomile oil

Get the best sleep of your life thanks to this amazing essential oil. A cup of chamomile tea, a few drops in a hot bath, or even applied to your pillow can help chase away insomnia and promote the restful sleep you need to look and feel your best.

Sleep is one of the most important tools you have to enhance your health and wellness, and chamomile oil can give you a bit of extra help to ensure you get a solid eight hours each night – letting your body heal tissues and cells.

  1. Jasmine oil

This feel-good oil works great in a diffuser to help ease your mind while you’re working around the house. It can prevent symptoms of depression and promote relaxation – keeping your nerves calm and your stress down. You can even keep a bottle in your desk or car for a quick whiff whenever you feel your anxiety rising.

This scent has also proven to stimulate the libido – so add a few drops to a carrier oil for a sensual massage experience with a loved one. A healthy sex life can improve your mood and keep you active, so let this seductive aroma work its magic in your bedroom.

Remember to always look for oils that are pure, with a therapeutic grade label. These may be slightly more expensive, but will provide the most benefit for your money. If you have chronic health concerns that don’t get better or even get worse with the use of these oils, check with your health care professional to make sure there isn’t a more serious cause behind your symptoms.

With antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, essential oils have a wealth of uses. For centuries, people have used these naturally therapeutic oils to enhance their health and beauty – and even today, we are discovering even more ways that essential oils can benefit our wellbeing. These oils can be used to prevent acne, combat cellulite, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and improve the appearance and texture of both skin and hair – as well as providing relief from a wide range of physical symptoms.

There are hundreds of oils out there that have properties that will enhance your health and beauty, but some essential oils provide more benefits than others. This guide will help you choose the best essential oils for health and beauty, so you can invest your money on the best oils for your body.

  1. Carrot seed oil

Rich in antioxidants, this oil is essential for anyone looking for a natural skin-care treatment. Not only does this oil help enhance your skin’s smooth texture, it has a rejuvenating effect – even promoting cellular regeneration. This means carrot seed oil can help your scars and stretch marks fade away, and balances the tone of aging skin.

The detoxifying effect of carrot seed oil will lessen inflammation and help clear your skin of the toxins that can lead to wrinkles. You’ll also benefit from this oil’s ability to treat a variety of infections.

  1. Geranium oil

For anyone with oily skin, this is an invaluable tool. With regular use, this oil can help control your skin’s oil production, which can reduce the frequency and severity of breakouts. Your skin will also feel tighter, and wrinkles will fade away thanks to the astringent properties of this oil.

Geranium oil also enhances blood circulation to the areas where it is applied to the skin with the help of a carrier oil. This way, it can reduce the appearance of bruises and heal skin conditions like burns, cuts, eczema, dermatitis, ringworm, and even broken capillaries.

head lice

I worked with elementary school children for 28 years and I know that you can treat head lice with tea tree oil. I love tea tree oil for all of its many and diverse uses. I just don’t like the way it smells. I use it if I’ll be home but not if I have to go out. I have an excellent oil treatment for head lice that does not use tea tree oil. Add 10 drops each of rosemary, lavender, geranium, and eucalyptus  to  2 ounces of sweet almond oil.

Rub the oil throughout the hair and leave it on for at least 1 hour then shampoo the oil out and rinse it well. Comb the hair with a nit comb after shampooing. Repeat this activity in about 3 days. Be very careful when you apply the oil and do not get it in the eyes. If essential oil gets in the eyes, wipe it out with plain sweet almond oil, not water. Water disperses the oil too quickly.

Essential oils are a natural, effective way to soothe allergies and sometimes even eliminate them altogether. Here is one of the ways you can use essential oils for allergies in a warm, aromatic steam.

This is actually a stock blend, which means you’ll blend four essential oils together, then use a single drop of that blend in your steam. This allows you to get the benefits of multiple oils in a single drop.

Stock Blend for Allergies

Make this blend in a 5 ml bottle. To make, just add all of the essential oil drops to the bottle and tighten the cap to snap the orifice reducer in place. (The orifice reducer is what allows you to get one drop out of the bottle.)

To do a steam with essential oils for allergies (or when you want to prevent them), you’ll need a bowl of warm, steamy water. I like to fill a soup bowl about halfway. Then add a single drop of your stock blend to the bowl.

Just one drop is enough. In fact, if I get two or three drops of essential oil in my steamy water, I usually like to set that bowl aside to let it diffuse into the room, and start over with a new bowl of water.

Once you’ve added the essential oil, close your eyes (that’s important!), lean over the bowl, and breathe in the warm, nourishing steam. It is best to drape a towel over my head to concentrate the steam even more. Breathe in the steam for a few minutes, and repeat several times a day. And here’s something you’ll want to take note of . . . you might want to keep a box of tissues nearby when you steam! It tends to loosen up your sinuses and unclog your nose, making you want to sniffle and blow your nose.
