Essential oils are a natural, effective way to soothe allergies and sometimes even eliminate them altogether. Here is one of the ways you can use essential oils for allergies in a warm, aromatic steam.

This is actually a stock blend, which means you’ll blend four essential oils together, then use a single drop of that blend in your steam. This allows you to get the benefits of multiple oils in a single drop.

Stock Blend for Allergies

Make this blend in a 5 ml bottle. To make, just add all of the essential oil drops to the bottle and tighten the cap to snap the orifice reducer in place. (The orifice reducer is what allows you to get one drop out of the bottle.)

To do a steam with essential oils for allergies (or when you want to prevent them), you’ll need a bowl of warm, steamy water. I like to fill a soup bowl about halfway. Then add a single drop of your stock blend to the bowl.

Just one drop is enough. In fact, if I get two or three drops of essential oil in my steamy water, I usually like to set that bowl aside to let it diffuse into the room, and start over with a new bowl of water.

Once you’ve added the essential oil, close your eyes (that’s important!), lean over the bowl, and breathe in the warm, nourishing steam. It is best to drape a towel over my head to concentrate the steam even more. Breathe in the steam for a few minutes, and repeat several times a day. And here’s something you’ll want to take note of . . . you might want to keep a box of tissues nearby when you steam! It tends to loosen up your sinuses and unclog your nose, making you want to sniffle and blow your nose.

Shea Butter Keeps My Skin Glowing

I love to use shea butter on my skin and it has been an awesome solution for me for a long time. This kind of butter is great for treating my skin when I have a sunburn or a cut and for keeping my skin refreshed and soft. I have been getting so many compliments on my skin and the way it looks ever since I started using this natural skin butter.

It is so nice to put some butter on my skin in the mornings and to use it as an important part of my personal care routine. I love the results that I have been having so far with the butter. It is a wonderful way for me to make sure that my skin is looking its best. I no longer have dry and itchy skin which is something I had for most of my life.

I really like the natural youthful glow that my skin has with my shea butter. This butter is great for healing and for keeping my skin moisturized as well. Shea butter helps to keep my skin wrinkle-free also as I am getting older and have a few wrinkles starting to appear. I am so happy that I have this butter to rely on every day.

Have you ever eaten a big, delicious meal, and then gone for a leisurely walk to help you digest?

Sweet Marjoram does this every day! It loves to cook wonderful meals, and then take gentle nature walks. It brings along a little pair of scissors and a basket to collect wild herbs . . . and Sweet Marjoram is always ecologically responsible about what it’s harvesting.

These walks fill Sweet Marjoram with the peace of nature, and its digestion seems to flow more easily and naturally as a result.

If you can’t get out for a nature walk after every meal, here’s a digestion oil that can help just as much.

Sweet Marjoram’s “Nature Belly” Digestion Oil

  • 1 oz (30 ml) jojoba
  • 9 drops Sweet Marjoram
  • 3 drops Roman Chamomile
  • 6 drops Cardamom

Make your blend in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottle. Pour the jojoba in the bottle, add the essential oils, and shake gently.

Apply your digestion oil on your belly and low back after a big meal. You can also apply it before the meal, so it can keep your belly feeling comfortable even as it’s getting full. This blend is also helpful for muscle cramps, so if you experience tension or cramps in your belly, you can reach for this blend for relief.

If you find yourself in places where it’s not practical to apply a belly oil (such as work or out to lunch with friends), you can actually use an inhaler for digestion instead. Inhalers are easy to make and use anywhere. Here’s a recipe from The Aromahead Blog. Much thanks to Andrea Butje for this blog.

“Smudge” Your Way to Happiness

When people think of aromatherapy, essential oils like lavender and patchouli usually come to mind. Native Americans, however, have used another type of aromatherapy for hundreds of years. Smudge stick sounds like something you would use to apply eye makeup with, but “smudging” is actually a method of aromatherapy employed by burning herbs, like sage, throughout a dwelling.

Some Native Americans believe the smoke created by burning some herbs has cleansing affects, as well as cognitive, emotional and physical benefits. Some even believe “smudging” can act as a messenger to energies and realities beyond conscious comprehension and understanding. Just as many take a hot bath to refresh and relax their bodies, dedicated smudgers burn sage or sweetgrass to treat depression, anger, fear, grief and anxiety.

Smudge sticks can be found at many specialty health stores. To begin smudging use matches or a candle to light the stick, and blow on the flame to put out the fire. Let the smudge stick smolder. Once the smoke begins to fill the air, fan it towards the body.

Oil Diffusers Are A Great Gift

There are some great gifts out there for friends and family and I am always looking for the best options when it comes to getting them something meaningful and something that they will be using for a long time. I have been really into diffusers for essential oils lately and I love to give them as a gift to my friends and family.

With some great diffusers for essential oils, I can enjoy the sweet smell of my favorite fragrances in my home and make sure that my friends and my family members are enjoying them as well. I love to find a new fragrance to try and I am always really excited to use my diffuser with a new fragrance that I have discovered.

Oil diffusers are always a great gift and I love to make my friends and family happy with a gift of a new diffuser. It is so much fun to keep a living room or a bedroom filled with some wonderful aromas that instantly set the mood just right. I can find some diffusers that have a modern look to them or a pretty wood design. I can’t wait to find one for my boyfriend since his birthday is coming up.

Some people put essential oils directly on their dog to naturally control fleas. However, essential oils are very strong and you don’t want to do that. Don’t take the chance that your dog will have a reaction. With people, it’s not a good idea to put essential oils directly on the skin, unless you dilute them in a carrier oil, such as coconut oil so why do that to your pet?

It is a better idea to apply a drop of geranium essential oil directly to the dog’s collar. Not his collarbone, but his fabric-made collar. The scent lasts for days and insects hate the smell of essential oils. In fact, you can put a few drops of peppermint essential oil on a wet kitchen sponge and use it to wipe down your counters in the spring when ants come trailing in from the rain. This oil has the amazing ability to repel those ants as well as many other insects.

Using geranium works for city dogs who are mostly inside and don’t spend a lot of time outdoors. If you live in an area infested with ticks, geranium essential oil may not protect you or your pet from a tick infestation. This is a big concern, in light of the widespread reports of Lyme disease. So I would check with your pet’s vet. If you live in a wooded area, and you’re worried about Lyme disease, discuss this with your own physician. That way, you can decide if the risk of using chemical flea products outweighs the benefits.

Another essential oil that is often used to keep the fleas away is lemongrass. Both of these oils are extremely versatile. So you can use them for a wide range of other things. For instance, I like to put geranium essential oil in my facial moisturizer because it’s considered a great natural wrinkle fighter.

Anti-aging Moisturizers

It is not uncommon for people to skip the moisturizing phase of skin care, but we really shouldn’t because moisturizing is important for reducing the visible signs of aging. As we grow older, our skin becomes less hydrated which necessitates the use of anti-aging moisturizers to have healthier looking skin. In the winter, when skin is at its driest, it is imperative that we moisturize daily. There are hundreds of different moisturizer products available, and choosing the right one can be a challenge.

We don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on moisturizing products, nor do we want a product that doesn’t work well. Not all moisturizers are created equal, so it’s important to shop around, ask friends, and read customer reviews to find the best products. When you’re using a great moisturizer, you’ll notice an immediate difference in the look and feel of your skin.
