How to Treat Injuries 3

We all know that massage is extremely effective for sore aching muscles because it reduces fluid retention and swelling while also stimulating blood circulation and lymphatic flow. In general, you should use 5 drops of essential oil to each 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. During the most severe stage of injury, you may need to double that dose of essential oil but when the acute stage has lessened, go back to the 5 to 1 rule.

Compresses are also good to use during the acute stage of an injury. Use a total of 8 drops of essential oil on the compress whether your compress is hot, cold, wet or steamed. My grandmother used to iron a cabbage leaf and put it on the sore spot while it was still warm. Apply the warm cabbage leaf compress for 10 minutes and repeat as necessary, warming it again before each use.

Another great treatment for sore muscles is a clay poultice. Add 2 tablespoons of green clay to cold or hot water and blend it until you have a thick and sticky paste. Add your essential oils to the blend and mix them in well. Apply your poultice to the sore area and wrap it with a bandage or a piece of light cloth like muslin.
