  1. The main therapeutic ingredient in peppermint essential oil is menthol. It has local anesthetic properties and reduces throat irritations. Menthol is similar to the ingredient in cayenne or hot peppers, capsaicin, which stimulates heat sensors without really causing a change in temperature. Menthol, however, has a cooling effect on the body without changing the actual body temperature. Some medications may adversely interact with peppermint oil so please consult a physician it you have concerns about drug interactions.
  2. Muscle discomfort – Peppermint oil can reduce discomfort and relax muscles – dilute 2 to 4 drops and apply topically to the affected area. Use with a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil if you have sensitive skin.
  3. Respiratory health – Peppermint oil acts as an expectorant and can relieve some symptoms of respiratory issues. Dilute 2-4 drops and apply topically to your chest and the back of your neck. Or add 10 drops to boiling water, put a towel over your head and breath in the aroma for 5 minutes.
  4. Energy boosting – Because it is invigorating and stimulating, peppermint oil can help fight fatigue and improve focus and concentration. Diffuse it or apply it directly to your temples, wrists and the back of your neck. You can also inhale it directly from the bottle or add a drop or two to a tissue and sniff as needed.
  5. Allergy symptoms soother – Peppermint relaxes the muscles in the nasal passages and clears out mucus and pollen during allergy season. Diffuse 5 drops, inhale it from the bottle or a tissue as above or dilute 2-3 drops and apply it topically to forehead, neck and chest.
  6. Headache relief – Peppermint oil may improve circulation, soothe your stomach and relax tense muscles. It can also help clear your nasal passages when you suffer from a sinus headache. Apply it to your forehead and temples for relief.
  7. Digestive soother – Peppermint oil helps relax the muscles in the intestines and reduce bloating, gas and nausea. It can also serve as a natural remedy for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS.) Diffuse it, apply it topically to your abdomen or take 1-2 drops internally mixed with hot tea.
  8. Fresh Breath and Healthy and Gums – Peppermint  oil has anti-microbial properties that will freshen breath and may kill bacteria that lead to cavities and gum issues. Add 1 drop to your toothpaste or mouthwash or place one drop under your tongue before drinking a glass of water.

I need to have some good lotion for my skin so that I can ensure that my skin doesn’t get too dry and that it looks healthy all year long. The changing weather conditions can be very hard on my skin, as well as spending lots of time outdoors. I enjoy living an active lifestyle and I like to go hiking or to go on a half-day kayaking trip out on the ocean.

Being in the sun all day long can really dry out my skin and the changing weather can really dry out my skin as well. It is nice to have some great lotion to rely on so that I can make sure that my skin is staying soft and smooth and I can enjoy my daily outdoor activities freely. The lotion that I have been using has a nice lemongrass scent and it is amazing.

I like that this lotion is not too thick and that it absorbs easily into my skin and leaves me feeling fresh and ready for the beach or for a day at work. I use the lotion all the time and it has really helped my skin to stay healthy even during the harsh winters and when the weather gets unpredictable. The skin lotion is a nice way for me to ensure a healthy glow.

essential oils5There are probably as many uses for aromatherapy as there are essential oils, but research shows particular promise in relieving stress, stabilizing your mood, improving sleep, pain, and nausea relief, and improving your memory and energy level.

An important element of aromatherapy is synergy, which is why using a combination of oils often creates a much more powerful effect than any one particular oil. With a skilled aromatherapist, the possibilities are nearly endless!

In order to give you an idea of the versatility of aromatherapy, the following table lists some of the therapeutic uses of several oils for a few of today’s most common complaints. As you can see, there are some real “multitaskers,” like lavender and peppermint—oils that treat more than one problem.

Complaint Essential Oils
Stress Lavender, lemon, bergamot, peppermint, vetiver, pine, and ylang ylang
Insomnia Lavender, chamomile, jasmine, benzoin, neroli, rose, sandalwood oil, sweet marjoram, and ylang ylang; lemon can wake you up
Anxiety Lavender, bergamot, rose, clary sage, lemon, Roman chamomile, orange, sandalwood, rose-scented geranium, and pine
Depressed mood Peppermint, chamomile, lavender, and jasmine
Pain Lavender, chamomile, clary sage, juniper, eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, lavender, and green apple (especially for migraines)
Nausea and vomiting Mint, ginger, lemon, orange, ginger, dill, fennel, chamomile, clary sage, and lavender
Memory and attention Sage, peppermint, and cinnamon
Low energy Black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, angelica, jasmine, tea tree, rosemary, sage, and citrus

Did you know that aromatherapy essential oils can help you concentrate and focus? Citrusy fresh scents like grapefruit and lime are very energizing. They will uplift your surroundings in the place where you study or work. I love the aroma of grapefruit in my work area and people close to my cubicle appreciate it too. I have a spray bottle that I often use and I also put a few drops on a tissue and sniff it throughout the day.

Blending rosemary and coriander essential oils gives you a fresh room fragrance. These oils are often used in cooking so the fragrance will be familiar to you and your guests. Both oils are also good for athletes and others with an active lifestyle because they are stimulating and have antispasmodic properties making them good to use for sports massage or in treatment for sore or injured muscles. Got an upset tummy? Use these two oils blended in a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil to massage in a clockwise manner around your stomach. Rosemary oil has been proven in several studies to increase memory by 75%.

There are several types of chamomile essential oil but chamomile Roman is especially good when used for the treatment of insomnia and nervous conditions. Chamomile is an essential oil that is antibacterial, antiseptic, and disinfectant but it is most useful for its internal and external anti-inflammatory properties.

Chamomile can be used when children have teething problems and can be added to the bath to ease nerves and tetchiness. It can also be used to treat burns, sunburn, psoriasis, eczema, asthma, hay fever, diarrhea, sprains and strains, nausea, fever, and nervous or depressed states. Chamomile’s analgesic, diuretic, sedative and calming properties make it absolutely essential to have in your home.

VetiverVetiver oil has been used in traditional medicine in South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Africa for thousands of years. It’s native to India, and both its leaves and roots have wonderful uses. Vetiver is known as a sacred herb valued because of its uplifting, soothing, healing and protective properties. It’s a natural body cooler — making it extremely popular in tropical countries. In fact, in India and Sri Lanka it’s known as the “oil of tranquility.”

Some of vetiver oil uses include treating heat strokes, joint disorders and skin problems. Using vetiver oil is also a way to boost energy levels when you’re exhausted. In addition, it’s used to cool the body during very high temperatures and soothe feelings of anxiety and nervousness. Now here are 6 excellent reasons to use vetiver essential oil.

  1. Vetiver oil promotes the regeneration of skin and tissue, which helps rejuvenate the skin and remove dark spots, acne and scars. It also has anti-aging properties that work to treat stretch marks and wrinkles. Simply add a few drops of vetiver oil to your face wash, body wash or lotion for an improved complexion.
  2. Vetiver oil possesses the ability to protect the body against damage caused by free radicals. Benefits of this powerful antioxidant include healthy skin, slower aging, better detox support and reduced cancer risk.
  3. A 2001 study showed that vetiver oil is effective in treating children who have ADHD. Researchers tested different essential oils in children with ADHD and found that vetiver oil increased performance by 100% in all participants. The calming properties of vetiver oil helped lessen ADHD symptoms and increase concentration.
  4. Research has shown that vetiver oil naturally boosts the immune system and the nervous system. It has a protective effect on the body, working to lessen toxicity. Thanks to its antioxidant properties, studies have shown that vetiver oil is able to inhibit DNA damage, while stimulating the immune system and providing support to the nervous system.
  5. Vetiver oil can be used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation and reduce stress. Studies have shown the oil can help with anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia and depression. In one study, vetiver oil was found to have the same impact as Diazepam, a calming medication for anxiety, muscle spasms, seizures and other conditions. Add a few drops to your oil burner and inhale.
  6. Researchers at the the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center analyzed eight different essential oils for their ability to repel termites. They found that vetiver oil proved to be the most effective due to its long-lasting activity. It effectively repelled termites and may also have the ability to repel mosquitoes.
