A Recipe for You: Thyme’s “Everything but the Sink” Hand Cleanser

As an educator for 28 years, I can tell you that being around kids means you need to have the kitchen sink in your purse or a bathtub in your backpack to keep them clean. Unfortunately, carrying those items around is not practical and it would kill your back! Still, we want our children be healthy and germ free so here is a convenient and alcohol free hand cleanser for you to use instead.

Thyme’s “Everything but the Sink” Hand Cleanser (for kids five and older)

Thyme essential oil is excellent to use for reducing infections. This recipe has everything it needs to cleanse and care for your tot’s hands when you are out and about.

  • 1 oz aloe vera gel
  • 3 drops thyme
  • 1 drop lemon
  • 2 drops tea tree

Make this blend in a 1 oz bottle with a flip-top. To use, shake out a few drops into the child’s palm and have them rub their hands together.

For kids younger than five, use a blend that’s made with just hydrosols because they’re very nourishing! You can make this blend in a 2 oz PET plastic spray bottle. (PET plastic is known to be a non-reactive plastic that doesn’t leach.)

Happy Hands Hydrosol Blend

  • 1 oz  lavender hydrosol
  • 1 oz tea tree hydrosol

Spray little hands with this blend, then wipe them clean with a paper towel until you have a chance to wash up with soap and water.
