I hate summer colds but I caught one from my husband! I knew it would happen as soon as he started sneezing. Oh well, the first thing I treated was my sore throat. To soothe a sore throat quickly, drink a mug of warm water with 1 to 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 to 2 drops of lemon essential oil added. Sip slowly until the cup is empty. It also helps to gargle with warm salt water.

My sore throat turned into a cold and colds usually have to just run their course but there are ways to alleviate the symptoms. My nose was stuffy, my head was aching and my sinuses felt full. I massaged around my chest, neck, and sinus area (forehead, nose and cheekbones) with the following essential oils:

  • 1 drop lemon
  • 2 drops eucalyptus
  • 3 drops rosemary

One other thing that is useful for a cold is to use these essential oils in a hot bath; 2 drops oregano, 2 drops tea tree, 1 drop eucalyptus, and 3 drops lemon. Lie back and inhale deeply as you soak until the water starts to cool. When you get out, use the massage oil discussed above and go to bed.
