lotionHave you ever noticed that some places on your body are dry and rough? Think about your elbows, knees, heels and the bottom of your feet, just to name a few. Frequent hand washing can cause cracked, dry skin so your hands may need special attention too. Dry skin can contribute to illness like colds and flu because your skin is the first line of defense for your immune system.

Shea butter is an excellent natural product to use for treating dry skin. You can smooth it on the rough places to soften your skin. A special treatment for dry hands and feet is to apply shea butter before going to bed. Put socks on your feet and if your hands are really dry, put on exfoliating gloves after applying your shea butter. Essential oils like lavender or geranium can also be used to treat dry skin. You can add the essential oil to an unscented lotion and use it on your hands during the day after each hand washing.
